The Open Hand Today

“You open Your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing.”

Psalm 145:16

If you do not recall a day in your life when you received eternal life as a free gift from Jesus, then this article will not make sense to you. Please click the eternal life button now and learn more about finding peace with God and being born again today.

Eternal Life [1]

A man told me recently that a scientist had created life with self-replicating DNA.  Well, I know this man loves to taunt believers, and so I went and read the article.  It turns out that a scientist had managed to transplant some synthetic DNA into a living organism where the living organism replicated the synthetic DNA as part of its regular habit of replicating itself.  No new live was actually created, and in fact, everything that happened involved using God’s matter, which He had created.  Scientists rarely consider that God created them, and gave life to them.   As they strive to understand God’s creation, they often fail to give glory to God for His wonderful creation.

Now, don’t get me wrong.  My wife earned a Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology.  She knows something about science, and biochemistry of life.  She understands some of the science of metabolism.  But as a believer, my wife knows that God created all things.  God not only created all things, but He also sustains all things.

David tells us that God satisfies the desire of every living thing.  Notice that the preceding verse 15, tells us that God feeds all of His creation.  Notice here in verse 16 that only God can satisfy.  This Hebrew term “satisfy” (“מַשְׂבִּיעַ”) means to satiate or fill up.  The Psalmist says that in the presence of God “is fullness of joy” (Psalm 16:11).

I see people walking around every day who know nothing about God satisfying them.  When you eat, you always get hungry again, sooner or later.  Jesus made a wonderful offer: “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.” (John 6:35).  Jesus not only satisfies our need for food, but He gives us eternal life and promises to raise us up on the last day (John 6:54).  Jesus also taught that “My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink.” (John 6:55).  Earlier, Jesus had said: “My food is to do the will of the Him who sent Me and to accomplish His work.” (John 4:34).

 Application for Today

Today I will be satisfied by God opening His hand for me.  I will feel His satisfaction in my life.  I will see people around me, and I know they do not know that only God can satisfy the spiritual hunger in their lives.  Jesus deserves my worship and praise today.  He has satisfied my desire.  Are you satisfied today?
