 The Miracle of Inspiration

Part  Eleven

 Sound Doctrine or Tickled Ears

False teachers prey upon the weak in every congregation of believers.  As we have seen, these false teachers will specifically attack the integrity of the Word of God.  They will try to persuade believers that the Word of God cannot be relied upon as true and accurate, but prefer instead to reject the truth of Scripture.  In their own arrogance, they sit in judgment upon the integrity of the Word of God and reject its truths.  We should not be alarmed at the rise of such false teachers, because Jesus has revealed to us how evil people will mislead believers in the last days.

2 Timothy 4:1, Page 1864

“I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearance and His kingdom:

Judge of The Living and The Dead.  Paul charged the young pastor Timothy to preach the Word of God.  In 2 Timothy 4:1, page 1864, Paul frames that charge in the context of the presence of God and of Christ Jesus.  Of course we know that Jesus Christ was always God, and has always been equal with God (Philippians 2:6, page 1836).  We now read a familiar theme with Paul in His preaching.  Everyone should keep in mind that God has appointed Jesus Christ to judge both the living and dead, and has furnished proof to all men by raising Him from the dead (Acts 17:30-31, page 1735).  As believers, we should be constantly aware of the future judgment of Christ.  We should let that sense of coming judgment influence our lives.  As believers, we expect to avoid the judgment upon sin after death (John 5:25-29, page 1663), but we look forward to reward for our labors (1 Corinthians 3:10-15, page 1785; 2 Corinthians 5:10, page 1809).

2 Timothy 4:2, Page 1864

“preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.

Preach the Word.   Congregations will have a tendency to be swept away by the influence of evil, deceitful spirits and the doctrines of demons (1 Timothy 4:1, page 1864).  The remedy for such bad spiritual behavior comes from faithful men who will preach the word, and reprove, rebuke, and exhort with great patience (2 Timothy 4:2-6, page 1864).  Notice the importance of preaching the Word of God in this verse.  Ignoring false teaching and false teachers, especially those who teach the gist theory of inspiration, results in believers suffering and allows the false teachers (assuming they are believers) to continue to disrupt families and toss believers in the wind of false doctrine (Titus 1:11, page 1866; Ephesians 4:14, page 1831).

2 Timothy 4:3, Page 1864

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires.”

Ears Tickled.  In the last days, believers will not endure sound doctrine.  Instead they want to have their ears tickled, and so will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires.  The effect of this rejection of sound doctrine will be that people will turn away their ears from the truth and aside to myths (2 Timothy 4:3-4, page 1864).  As we have seen before, no doctrine remains more important than the integrity of the Word of God.  Because faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God, then if the Word of God is not true, then the Gospel of Jesus Christ is not true.  If Paul or John or any other author of the New Testament did not accurately record the message of Christ, then we have problems knowing the message of Christ.  So, we see that in the last days, believers will not endure (“ἀνέξονται“) sound doctrine.   This word “endure” means to hold up, to stand up tall, or erect.  In this sense, we will see believers in the last days no longer hold up sound teaching, but instead drop that teaching and favor other teaching that denies the integrity of the Bible.  Believers in the last days will gravitate towards preachers who tickle their ears with their words, sensational presentations and histrionics.

So we learn more about the power of God today.

    ●  Jesus will sit as the Judge of both the living and the dead, so we should be careful to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ today, because it provides the basis for faith and forgiveness.

   ●  In the last days, which we are in, believers will want their ears tickled.  They will seek the sensational, rather than the spiritual doctrine of the Word of God.

    ●  As believers, we look to the Word of God for truth and rely upon its truth.

Application for Today

As I live today, I want to live by the power of God, upon which my faith rests in Christ.  When I read His word, and speak with people, and as I rise up and lay down, and walk through life, by faith alone I want to experience His power in my life today.  Will you trust in the power of God working in you today?

 Christ Assembly Basics

Christ Assembly provides free access to various studies from the Bible, the Word of God. The studies in this website are not inspired, but God produced the Bible, consisting of sixty-nine books (39 Old Testament and 27 New Testament). The Holy Spirit inspired authors to produce original autographs of the Bible in Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek. Those original authors wrote over the course of many centuries. They wrote divinely inspired words and every word was divinely inspired. The authors communicated in their own styles, and with their own vocabulary, but God breathed out every word of the final autographs. The words in the Bible really matter, and deserve careful study.

As we study, we seek to love Jesus more because His word has instructed us so that we learn His ways. Eternal life consists in knowing God the Father, and Jesus Christ Whom God sent. As the eternal God of Glory, One with His Father, the Son of God took flesh and dwelt among us. Because of His death, He used His blood to purchase our redemption. He was raised for our justification. We now live by faith in the Son of God, Who loved us and gave Himself for us. By the grace of God, the Holy Spirit abides in every born-again believer and fills us with His presence and blessings. He leads us into all truth. Jesus is the truth, and the way, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Jesus, our Lord.

We look forward to His imminent return to the clouds of earth, to snatch away the believers alive on earth, so that we may be forever with the Lord. When He returns to the clouds, He will bring with Him all those people in Christ who died before His return to the clouds. We encourage one another with the promises of God, Who makes our path grow brighter and brighter, until the full light of day shines forth. We love Jesus and look forward to seeing Him soon. After Jesus removes the believers from the earth, then a terrible period of seven years follows where God brings measured and precise judgments upon the people alive on earth. God cut those days of  Tribulation short, or no flesh would have been saved. Jesus will then return to earth, slay His enemies, and place His feet on the Mount of Olives where He ascended to heaven. He will then reign on earth for a thousand years, and believers will reign with Him. After the Millennial Reign of Christ, all unbelievers will be judged at the Great White Throne Judgment, and they will suffer according to their deeds done on earth. They will be cast into the Lake of Fire, a place of torment night and day for eternity, because they never received the free gift of salvation while alive on earth. One day, every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord, to the glory of God. Today we invite you to come and see Jesus, and learn from Him, for He is gentle and humble in heart. Take His yoke upon you, for His burden is easy and His yoke is light. He will give you rest for your soul as you trust Him. We receive salvation only from Jesus, by faith alone in Jesus, Who gives us the free gift of eternal life.

We accept the teaching of the Word of God. As born again believers, baptized by Jesus with the Holy Spirit, the anointing from God teaches us all things. We love to study the Word of God as we abide in Christ Jesus our Lord. God blesses all of us when we read His word, hear His word, and heed His word. We share original studies of the Word of God without cost and we do not receive donations. We support the finances of this ministry through private means, so that we are not a burden to anyone. We oppose charging people to read books, articles, journals or other studies of the Word of God. Such work should be supported by donations, but not in prescribed amounts and not as a requirement to gain access to what God has freely provided. What God has freely given, we should freely share. Just as Paul worked making tents, so we work to support this ministry.
