 The Miracle of Inspiration

Part  Eight

Love and Obedience to the Scripture

I have seen many men tell me that they love Jesus, but they do not keep His commandments.  Of course, all of us fail to keep all of  His commandments because we are all sinful (1 John 1:8-10, page 1904).  The focus of our lives, however, must be upon following the Lord Jesus Christ, and implementing His desires in our lives.

John 14:15, Page 1685

“If you love Me, you will keep my commandments.”

Jesus had this wonderful ability to state the truth in simple, precise terms that contained divine power for living.  In John 14:15, page 1685, Jesus linked our love for Him to a very tangible standard of living: keep His commandments.  Jesus used Himself as the example in John 15:10, page 1686: “If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My Father’s love; just I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.”  Not only will we have the abiding love the Father and Son in our lives by keeping His commandments, we will also have the joy of Jesus Christ (John 15:11, page 1686).  Jesus taught that His commandments centered around loving God and one another (John 13:34-35, page 1684; John 15:12-17, page 1686).  God inspired the words of Scripture so that we would obey His commands, and so demonstrate to the world that we are His disciples (John 13:35, page 1684).  Love underlies the commands of Christ, and in His love we experience His life and joy.

Luke 6:46, Page 1608

“Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?”

I often meet people at the beach who claim they will go to heaven because they have tried very hard to obey God and do the right thing.  In fact, Jesus made it plain that we all sin and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23, page 1762).  If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth of God is not in us (1 John 1:8, page 1904).  Only faith in Christ forgiving us because He died for us o the cross takes away sins.  In other words, faith and not works sends us to heaven (Ephesians 2:8-9, page 1828).  Jesus makes the point that we should not call Him Lord if we do not obey His commandments.  We learn His commandments by reading and following His word, written in the Bible.  In Luke 6:46, page 1608, Jesus told His disciples that calling Him “Lord” proved nothing more than lip service.  Jesus always sought to promote heart service, that is, new life flowing from a new heart.  Jesus likened the man who heard His words and acted upon them was like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation on rock.    When the flood came, the house withstood the flood (Luke 6:46-49, pages 1608-1609).

John 14:21, Page 1685

“He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who love Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him”

Finally, Jesus again linked love for Him to keeping His commandments.  While keeping His commandments all the time will prove impossible for all of us, it remains our constant goal and pursuit in life.  We see our love for Jesus by looking at how well and how often we keep His commandments in our lives.  If you claim to love Jesus, but do not keep His commandments, then your love amounts to nothing.  If you love Jesus, then He promised you that you would abide in the Father’s love, and Jesus’ love too.  Furthermore, Jesus will disclose himself to you (John 14:21, page 1685).  This word “disclose” (“ἐμφανίσω“) means to make known inwardly and spiritually in this context.  This same root word appears in John 14:22, page 1685 when Judas (not Iscariot) questioned Jesus about this disclosure.  Jesus answered and explained how both He and His father would take up living inside the believers, plus the Holy Spirit would also take up residence within the believer.  In this short passage in John 14, we see every member of the Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) described as living in the believer.  What tremendous blessings we have in Christ Jesus.  Through Him, God lives within us and discloses Himself to us.

So we learn more about the loving Jesus today.

    ●  If we love Jesus, we will keep His commandments.

   ●  We should not call Jesus “Lord, Lord” unless we keep His commandments.  We all fall short, but our lives should reflect our love for the Lord Jesus by keeping His commandments.

       ●  If we keep His commandments, we will have the Father, Son and Holy Spirit living within us, and Jesus will disclose Himself to us.

Application for Today

I want to keep the commandments of Jesus today, no matter how I have been doing lately.  Because I love Jesus, I want to keep His commandments and abide in His love every moment of every day.  Will you keep His commandments today?

 Christ Assembly Basics

Christ Assembly provides free access to various studies from the Bible, the Word of God. The studies in this website are not inspired, but God produced the Bible, consisting of sixty-nine books (39 Old Testament and 27 New Testament). The Holy Spirit inspired authors to produce original autographs of the Bible in Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek. Those original authors wrote over the course of many centuries. They wrote divinely inspired words and every word was divinely inspired. The authors communicated in their own styles, and with their own vocabulary, but God breathed out every word of the final autographs. The words in the Bible really matter, and deserve careful study.

As we study, we seek to love Jesus more because His word has instructed us so that we learn His ways. Eternal life consists in knowing God the Father, and Jesus Christ Whom God sent. As the eternal God of Glory, One with His Father, the Son of God took flesh and dwelt among us. Because of His death, He used His blood to purchase our redemption. He was raised for our justification. We now live by faith in the Son of God, Who loved us and gave Himself for us. By the grace of God, the Holy Spirit abides in every born-again believer and fills us with His presence and blessings. He leads us into all truth. Jesus is the truth, and the way, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Jesus, our Lord.

We look forward to His imminent return to the clouds of earth, to snatch away the believers alive on earth, so that we may be forever with the Lord. When He returns to the clouds, He will bring with Him all those people in Christ who died before His return to the clouds. We encourage one another with the promises of God, Who makes our path grow brighter and brighter, until the full light of day shines forth. We love Jesus and look forward to seeing Him soon. After Jesus removes the believers from the earth, then a terrible period of seven years follows where God brings measured and precise judgments upon the people alive on earth. God cut those days of  Tribulation short, or no flesh would have been saved. Jesus will then return to earth, slay His enemies, and place His feet on the Mount of Olives where He ascended to heaven. He will then reign on earth for a thousand years, and believers will reign with Him. After the Millennial Reign of Christ, all unbelievers will be judged at the Great White Throne Judgment, and they will suffer according to their deeds done on earth. They will be cast into the Lake of Fire, a place of torment night and day for eternity, because they never received the free gift of salvation while alive on earth. One day, every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord, to the glory of God. Today we invite you to come and see Jesus, and learn from Him, for He is gentle and humble in heart. Take His yoke upon you, for His burden is easy and His yoke is light. He will give you rest for your soul as you trust Him. We receive salvation only from Jesus, by faith alone in Jesus, Who gives us the free gift of eternal life.

We accept the teaching of the Word of God. As born again believers, baptized by Jesus with the Holy Spirit, the anointing from God teaches us all things. We love to study the Word of God as we abide in Christ Jesus our Lord. God blesses all of us when we read His word, hear His word, and heed His word. We share original studies of the Word of God without cost and we do not receive donations. We support the finances of this ministry through private means, so that we are not a burden to anyone. We oppose charging people to read books, articles, journals or other studies of the Word of God. Such work should be supported by donations, but not in prescribed amounts and not as a requirement to gain access to what God has freely provided. What God has freely given, we should freely share. Just as Paul worked making tents, so we work to support this ministry.
