Eternal Life

Have you ever seen the look of total hopelessness?  You hear it in the voice, see it around the eyes, and the head inclines downward?  When hope leaves, the spirit falls.  Jesus never wanted you to lose your hope, and in fact, He intends for you to rejoice in the power of your salvation.  Do you need some more joy in life today?  Well, let us read the Word of God.

through Whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God.

Romans 5:2

We Stand in Grace.  We also see that we stand in this grace (“τὴν χάριν“), which God has given to us by faith in Christ.  We restore our hope by faith.  We keep standing before God in hope.  The object of our hope is the glory of God, and Jesus Christ, the living Savior, provides this hope for the future.  Right now, Jesus wants us to know that by faith we stand in grace.  You may remember that grace may be summarized as God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense.  Remember that the verse here tells us that we stand.  We are not crouching, shrinking, or hiding from God and His presence.  By His decision, and verdict of acquittal, we stand before Him.  If you know you are unworthy, and want to bow down–great.  But in grace, you must also recognize you stand forever in Christ, just as tall as He is before His Father.  We have His righteousness.  When you really understand that all of your sins have been removed forever, you will truly stand without fear before God, who intended you to stand before Him just like Christ stands in His constant love.  Often your unconfessed sin (particularly lingering shame and sorrow) saps your hope, and your forgetfulness of the grace of God drives you down and down.  Read this text, believe Jesus tells you the truth, and remember works never brought you to God, only by faith through grace do you stand before God, and He said you will stand in Christ there before Him forever.  Look up today!

Our Introduction.  In Romans 5:2, Paul builds his message block upon block, word upon word, verse upon verse, and chapter upon chapter.  In other words, verse 2 relates to verse 1.  As believers, we have obtained our introduction (“προσαγωγὴν“) through Jesus Christ.  If we ignore Christ, then we ignore the only way, the only truth and the only life and no one comes to the Father but through Him (John 14:6).  The term “introduction” means access to the living God, the greatest honor in the universe.  We stand before Him with confidence and boldness, because of Christ (Ephesians 3:12).  So let me talk to you about losing your hope.  When you lose hope, you have lost your focus upon God the Son, your hope in salvation by faith alone, and the grace that brought you into fellowship with God.  Romans 5:1-2, if you will memorize them, will help change your thinking and the Holy Spirit will replace your hopelessness with exceeding joy in Christ.

We Exult in Hope.  I have noticed many times that my friends do not understand the basic English words in the Bible. The word “exult” (“καυχώμεθα“) means to rejoice greatly or to glory greatly.  We exult when we feel in our hearts the greatness of God in saving our souls from eternal death and suffering.  We exult when we see someone express new faith in Christ Jesus for salvation.  We exult when we see Jesus at work in the lives of our friends.  In Romans 5:2,  we exult in the hope of the glory of God.  We know that hope (“ἐλπίδι“) always concerns something future and unseen, because no one hopes for what they see now (Romans 8:24).  Therefore, we turn away from despair and hopelessness by looking forward to the glory of God.  When we stand before the Father, Son and Holy Spirit in heaven, we will see and experience their glories face to face, and our hope will be realized.  We will be standing there then, occupying exactly the same position we occupy right now in Christ.  We stand there by faith through grace.  God’s love drew us there and keeps us there, forever.  We will see His glory, and we will be glorified in Him.  What a great hope of being with God in glory.  Let that hope touch everything within you today!

So we learn more about Jesus and the power of justification today.

    ●  The power of justification by faith has changed the way we stand before God both now and for eternity.  Jesus Himself has provided the introduction by faith through grace to stand before the only true God.

   ●   We stand in grace today because we have never done anything, or ever will do anything, that will allow us to stand before God without the justification that only Christ brings to us as a gift.  You love Jesus all the more as you ponder this great grace in which we stand forever, beginning at the moment of our salvation, and really, from eternity past, when God chose us to be in Christ.

   ●  We exult in the hope of the glory of God because so many of our best days lie before us, although the day of our salvation will certainly be a day to remember for eternity.  We have hope that causes us to rejoice greatly every time we consider in our minds and hearts the power of Jesus Christ.

Application for Today

As I live today, I will stand in grace and exult in hope of the glory of God.  I will be thinking about the power of justification to change my life today, bringing hope and great joy with confidence before God.  Where do you stand and what are you hoping for today?
